Our Scouts learn 19 fundamental leadership skills for starting or continuing their progress as youth leaders in a Unit and in their community. They also practice beginner and advanced outdoor skills to extend the standard scouting curriculum. This is tied together by teaching effective teamwork skills using the Patrol method. PRACTICE
Buckskin gives each Scout the opportunity to practice each leadership, outdoor, and teamwork skill in a safe and structured environment. Participants are guided by a passionate staff with over 35 years of scout educational experience. Click here to learn more about how our scouts practice what they learn.
IMPLEMENT
For every 1 hour of classroom-style learning and practice, Buckskin Scouts will experience at least 2 hours of skill implementation in an outdoor environment. With over 70 targeted games and 3 major challenges, these Scouts will not only walk away with fundamental knowledge but also hands-on experience. ABOUT BUCKSKIN
Founded in 1984, Buckskin is one of the first Youth Leader Training courses in all of Scouting. Buckskin is an immersive leadership experience for Scouts BSA Troops in the Heart of Virginia Council. Buckskin offers a 360 degree leadership experience that integrates classroom teaching with hands-on practice and reinforcement. This exciting combination will equip your Scout with the tools, experience, confidence, and enthusiasm needed to make a difference as a leader in their troop and their community.
